The Health/Physical Education Department consists of required courses for seventh and eighth grade students as well as required courses for grades 9-12. These courses are listed below, along with their course descriptions. Physical education is a graduation requirement.


Junior High Course Offerings

Physical Education - 1/2 Credit -This course is designed to help students improve their skills, and their knowledge of various athletic and lifetime sports activities. Knowledge of rules and physical techniques will be explored. Class activities will directly involve students in experiences related to various sports and personal fitness techniques. This course is mandatory.

Eighth Grade Health- 1/4 Credit -This course teaches the care and maintenance of the body systems. A wellness approach is utilized throughout to allow students to set positive goals for their personal health. Decisions that must be made regarding life-style habits will be explored. Proper nutrition, drugs, alcohol and tobacco abuse, and sexually transmitted disease are also taught with emphasis on positive decision-making in these areas. This course is mandatory.

Senior High Course Offerings

Physical Education - 1/3 of Semester -This course is designed to help students improve their skills in, and their knowledge of various athletics and lifetime sports activities. Knowledge of rules and physical techniques will be explored. Class activities will directly involve students in experiences related to various sports and personal fitness techniques with an emphasis on a wellness approach for lifetime health and fitness. This course is mandatory until 4 Semesters have been completed.

Health 9 - 1/2 Credit -This course will take a wellness approach to several areas of health as it pertains to the student, both now and in the future. Responsible behaviors that impact the student, others, and the environment will be discussed. This course is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and good decision-making as it pertains to the lifestyle. Topics covered in this curriculum are physical fitness, nutrition, weight loss and weight management, personal hygiene, alcohol, tobacco, drugs (both legal and illegal), and non-communicable diseases, human reproduction and sexuality (with and emphasis on responsible decision-making).

Health 11 - 1/2 Credit -Students will learn about the process used to achieve a healthy lifestyle, which will include the need for health promotion, protection and prevention of healthy and risk behaviors. Focus will be on responsible decision making which will lead to self-discipline and commitment on making total wellness a priority. Course content will include: self-responsibility for wellness, understanding the human body, human reproduction and sexuality (an emphasis on responsible decision-making and communication skills). A CPR unit will be incorporated into the course.
